Why hospital and healthcare project?
Equitable Healthcare
Covid19 pandemic has exposed a few blatant truths and one of them being the fact that the existing medical and healthcare arrangements available in private and public sector of Bangladesh are not adequate and equitable to the people. The Ukraine Russia, unrest in the Middle East and in the Asia Pacific have exponentially flared up the inflation rate, making the struggle for survival even more difficult than ever before, especially in Bangladesh.
Most of the people cannot afford the cost of healthcare services owing to financial limitations, especially in private hospitals where the cost of healthcare services is exorbitant.
Who Founded Twelve Rivers Hospital And Healthcare Trust ?
The Trust has been established by 50 Founding Social Entrepreneur Donors who are ex-cadets from all the twelve cadet colleges of Bangladesh. However, the trustee board is dynamic and the members of the trustee board can be coopted from outside these 50 members provided he or she is an ex-cadet from any of the twelve cadet colleges.
Professionally these ex-cadets are successfully serving in different sectors and many of them are maintaining really high profiles and outstanding career tracks both at home and abroad.
These ex-cadets have shared ideologies and vision about life that find solace in engaging in philanthropic activities to serve the cause of humanity for the satisfaction of ALLAH only.

The reasons why cadets are way ahead of others in the field of real life include their abilities to take up challenges, their agility and courage, their hardworking abilities and honesty, and most importantly, their leadership skills.
In fact, with the kind of potentials the ex-cadets carry, they can prove that the right places for truly creative mind lie not in Bangladesh Cadre Services, but in facing entrepreneurial challenges that will contribute to the cause of serving the humanity, create job opportunities for thousands of people and strengthen the national economy for the country.
What Is Justification of Establishing Twelve Rivers Hospital And Healthcare Trust?
Twelve Rivers Hospital and Healthcare Trust has been registered officially to offer ‘equitable healthcare’ services to the beneficiaries. Here beneficiaries refer to mainly but not limited to the financially struggling and insolvent group of people living both in the cities and in the rural areas of Bangladesh. Besides, the beneficiaries also include the cadets and ex-cadets of all the 12 cadet colleges.
The term ‘equitable healthcare’ by definition refers to quality medical services offered to the people at the time of their need at an affordable cost depending on their financial capabilities.
Now, if you want to offer quality healthcare services to the people at the time of their need, the cost of services usually increases in most of the cases, and the services are often not affordable to the people in the receiving ends. Here lies the essence or the justification of Twelve Rivers Hospital and Healthcare Trust. The Trust shall contribute philanthropically to offer equitable healthcare services keeping it within their financial abilities of the people. Trust shall subsidize the cost of services for the patients who are financially challenged and ensure that despite keeping the cost of services as low as the price of 1 k.g. rice, the equitable healthcare model remains sustainable in the long run.
How the Trust Is going to arrange the fund for running equitable healthcare services over 1200 outlets and 7 acute hospitals all over the country in the next 20 years?
The Trust shall generate fund to establish and run healthcare outlets and hospitals in two different ways:
- The social entrepreneurs shall endow 50.5% share of their profitable venture to the trust so that it can establish and run hospitals and healthcare, medicine and diagnosis units with the partnership of ex-cadets.
- The Trust shall receive donation or endowment or other gifts as a form of charity or Sadaka from home and abroad.
How did the Trust accumulate its initial fund?
Each of the 50 founding social entrepreneurs’ donor donated a sum of BDT 100000 to create fund for the trust to run healthcare services to the patients non-profitably.
Each of the 50 founding social entrepreneur donors endowed 40.5% share from their individual shareholding position to the custody of the trust to carry out its expansion plan of the outlets till the size reaches as many as 1200 all over the country.
How does the Trust wish to expand its pharmacy chain from 1 outlet to 500 outlets in 2030 and to 1200 outlets in 2040?
Hypothetically, the ex-cadets ‘social entrepreneurs’ who are otherwise engineers, doctors, teachers, aviators, mariners, IT professionals, researchers, programmers, lawyers, public servants, bankers, etc. by professions, linked together with small chain can collectively create a big chain to facilitate a macro investment hub that could well generate sustainable enterprises to establish and run Equitable Healthcare Model in the country. A great proof of this hypothesis is Twelve Rivers Hospital and Trust itself. Ex-cadets serving successfully in different professions has established this trust to their explore entrepreneurial potentials and philanthropic responsibilities to the society in general.
How the trust is going to offer medical services to the patients or beneficiaries only at the minimal cost in its premises?
As has been mentioned, the trust shall have two different sources of income – one shall come directly from the profits of the share endowed by the social entrepreneurs, pharmacy outlet i.e. Twelve Rivers Pharma Ltd. and the other shall come from Sadaka or charity that the Trust shall receive directly from the people or organization.
The trust shall bear the expenses of running free medical camp organized by each unit. The trust shall procure its medicine from Twelve Rivers Pharmacy Ltd. only to distribute free medicines to the patients. The trust shall run basic testing services and offer doctor’s services at its premises equitably and non-profitably. Likewise, if the Trust runs 500 outlets, each of them shall have GP services offered to the people at the minimal cost only. However, for specialist services the cost of the service shall be charged equitably. The trust shall subsidize the cost of services from its fund that it collects from the sources described early.
Suppose, at the end of each month, the unit offering GP services to the patients in the pharmacy incur an expenses of 35000.00 BDT and only 20000.00 BDT has been realized from patients, the remaining 15000.00 BDT shall be covered by the Trust from its Sadaka account every month.
